What’s the Best CPU and GPU Combo for Gaming in the Next 5 Years?

I'm trying to decide between two setups for my gaming PC that I'll be using for the next 5+ years. Should I go with the 9700X paired with a 5070 TI or the 7800X3D along with a 9070 XT? I currently have a 5800X3D and a 3080 TI, and I want to maintain or improve my gaming and media watching experience. Both setups will have similar motherboards and RAM. Which combo do you think would offer the best performance down the line?

If you're concerned about future-proofing, I'd advise against going for an 8-core CPU. For longevity, look into models with more cores, like the i9 14900K with 8 performance cores or the R9 9950X, which offers a more robust solution for various gaming scenarios.

If you're gaming primarily at 1080p or 1440p, the 7800X3D combo is definitely better, but I'd lean towards the 5070 TI if you're considering 4K gaming. Nvidia's upscaling is superior, and the 7800X3D isn't as crucial for 4K performance, especially with DLSS 4 outshining FSR4.

Ultimately, it depends on how well AMD supports the 9070 XT with software like FSR4. It's essential to consider both game optimization and hardware longevity.

The 7800X3D and 9070XT combo is the way to go. You'll get a significantly faster CPU and only a minor difference in GPU performance. Plus, it should hold up well for the next few years.

The 7800X3D is just a bit better than your current CPU. Upgrading might cost around $640 for the CPU, RAM, and motherboard, but the 5800X3D still holds its own for gaming with either GPU. Unless you need max FPS at 1080p or medium settings, I wouldn't suggest such a minor upgrade unless it's for a top-end setup like a 5090 or 5080 with a 9800X3D.
