What’s the Best CPU Upgrade for My Dell Motherboard?

I'm currently rocking an Intel i5-3470 with a Dell 042P49 A02 motherboard, but I'm really considering a CPU upgrade. I'm hoping to get better performance for gaming, aiming for around 60 fps on decent graphics settings. My GPU is an older Nvidia GeForce GT 1030, so I'm curious if upgrading the CPU alone would make a significant difference or if I should just start fresh. Any advice or specific CPU recommendations would be greatly appreciated! ^^

Honestly, your system is pretty old, and putting more money into it might not be the best idea. If you can swing it, look for something newer or aim for at least an 8th gen CPU - you’ll get much better performance for your gaming needs!

I definitely wouldn’t recommend sinking any cash into that old rig. Like some others mentioned, it might be best to retire it. If you do look for a replacement, I found a decent HP Z4 G4 workstation with an i7 Extreme 7820X, 32GB of RAM, and a GTX 1660 that could be a great option!

For the best value, I’d suggest looking into a used AMD 5800X CPU paired with a 6800XT GPU. You can get some solid performance for under $1,000 if you check your local market.

The fastest CPU you could fit in that motherboard is still over a decade old. It’s really not worth investing in. You’d benefit more from saving up for a newer system that can handle modern games better.

If you're considering an upgrade, I've heard the i7-3770 is an option, but honestly, it might be better just to start fresh altogether.
