What’s the Best Data Storage System for a Photographer?

I'm a photographer with a lot of RAW and edited images that I need to back up. I've been using a few HDDs and SSDs, but since I'm starting to sell my work, I need a better storage solution. I don't see the need for a NAS since I only need to access my files from my desk. However, I edit on my MacBook and manage everything from my PC, which complicates things. I found the Lexar Workflow Pro, but at around €2500 for a 4TB SSD, it's out of my budget. I need a system that allows me to work from at least one SSD, while the rest can be HDDs. If necessary, I can temporarily copy files to my Mac while editing, but I'd like a more organized and efficient setup. Any suggestions?

I’m not sure why you’d need a different system just because you’re selling your work. If you’re worried about performance, maybe consider splitting your catalog into multiple sections. That way, it won’t feel so cluttered.

I see your point, but my main issues are organization and storage. I only have about 40-50GB left now, and I can’t go through all my photos to delete a few hundred GB. I really just want a cleaner setup to help streamline my workflow.

Since you have two devices, a NAS could still work great for you, even right at your desk. If you have a spare PC, consider installing TrueNAS or Unraid. You can even add expansion cards for more connections if needed.

I appreciate the advice, but I don't have any old PCs or spare parts. I’d rather go for a compact prebuilt solution instead.
