I'm looking to screen mirror from my new Surface Pro tablet to my TV. I currently have a Chromecast but I'm fed up with the lengthy ads YouTube has started showing, and I'm hoping to regain control over the content I see. However, my Smart TV isn't connected to the internet, so I need a dongle solution. I've read about Miracast options, but I'd love to hear from anyone who has recommendations or experiences with this!

I've used a simple setup for streaming—an old computer connected to my TV with a wireless mouse. You could also consider using a VPN to help eliminate ads if that annoys you. It's a bit of a hassle but might save you some costs in the long run!

If you want a straightforward way, connected devices work great for wireless mirroring. Ensure you're looking for one that supports Miracast specifically, not just Chromecast. It should provide a smoother experience for using your Surface Pro.

If your TV has a built-in screen casting option, you might already have a Miracast feature without needing extra hardware! Just check the sources menu where you choose the HDMI port. If it does work, be aware that some built-in options might be a bit slow. Alternatively, the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter v2 is fantastic—smooth setup and connection. It's discontinued, but you can find it on sites like eBay. Just remember to download the app and set up security to avoid unwanted connections.

Honestly, if you're paying $200 for a tablet just to avoid a $15/month subscription, it’s a bit concerning. Maybe consider if the tablet fits in your budget and long-term needs. Still, a Miracast dongle could be a straightforward solution!
