What’s the Best First Upgrade for My PC?

I'm pretty new to PC building and I put together my first rig about a year ago. It's time for some upgrades, but I'm not sure where to start. Currently, I have an RX 6600, a Ryzen 5 5500, and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. I want to improve performance, especially for gaming, since I'm struggling to run games smoothly like Oblivion. Any suggestions on what I should upgrade first?

If your gameplay is jittery, the first thing I'd probably look at is the CPU or RAM. For gaming, a solid CPU is crucial, and while your GPU isn't bad, the Ryzen 5 might be holding you back. It's also worth checking your current RAM usage while gaming to see if you're hitting the limits.

First off, it's vital to know specifically what's not performing well. Are there certain games where you experience lag or low frame rates? If it's mostly RAM or CPU limitations, those could be your priority. Also, check if your graphics settings are too high for your current setup.

I updated the post, I have 2TB of storage and really want smoother gameplay. Oblivion is pretty unplayable right now.

You should consider upgrading your Ryzen 5 to a Ryzen 7 or even an Intel i5 or i7. If you're aiming for gaming at 1440p, think about getting something like the RTX 4060 Ti. Also, doubling your RAM to 32GB could really enhance performance for gaming, especially if you're into more demanding titles.

Thanks, I’ll definitely look into upgrading my RAM and those other components!
