I'm looking to surprise my boyfriend with a new gaming headset since his Turtle Beach Recon 70 broke. I want to get him an upgrade and don't have a strict budget, maybe under $300. He's mentioned the possibility of separate headphones and a mic, so I'd appreciate any recommendations for those as well!

You should definitely check out HyperX or SteelSeries headsets. They both have great build quality, and older HyperX models are known for being really durable. If you want to get him a great pair of headphones instead, consider Sennheiser or Beyerdynamic. You can pair those with a detachable mic like the V-moda Boom Pro, which will give him a top-notch audio experience that beats most high-end gaming headsets.
I’ve been using the Arctis Nova 1Ps and I really like them. Just a heads up, there are a ton of versions like wired, wireless, and for different consoles, so you'll have to choose based on what fits his setup best!
Check out the HyperX Cloud Alpha—its battery life is unbeatable, lasting over a hundred hours! I only charge mine like once a month, or even longer, which is awesome.
Combining a headset and mic often results in lower quality overall sound, but it depends on what your boyfriend does with it. For a solid all-around option, the HyperX Cloud 3s have been great for me, and there's a wireless option if he prefers that.
The Audeze Maxwell is a fantastic option, although it's a bit on the heavier side. It’s really well-regarded among gamers!

+1 for this! Also, check out the Simgot EP5, they’re solid too!
