I'm considering a position that would primarily involve sysadmin responsibilities, including on-call support and maintenance. However, it will also involve more network engineering tasks, such as overseeing server revamps. I'm looking at other opportunities but feel about 80% sure this one will be available since I got it through strong personal connections. The company is willing to create a title that accommodates me, and I'd like to know what job title would best support my career growth when I move on from this role. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Honestly, as a hiring manager, I think your job title isn't as crucial as you might think. It's more about the skills and experiences you bring to the table.
How about "The Wizard"? It sounds fun! I've seen job listings asking for 3+ years of wizardry experience. Just a thought, though—might not help if you're not dealing with magical systems!
I like this one! But I doubt I'll be troubleshooting any wand systems or grimoires, so it might not work...
I'd recommend titles like Systems Engineer or Site Reliability Engineer if you can manage it. They can definitely carry a lot of weight on your resume, especially if your role combines those responsibilities.
Thank you! Is there a reason you prefer these specific titles?
Thanks for your input! Can you elaborate on why the title doesn’t matter much? Is this view common among hiring managers?
