Hey everyone! I've got an older Samsung Tab A (2016, model SM-T280) that's been running super slow lately. I'm considering switching the operating system to something lighter in the hopes of speeding things up. Since this is my first real venture into Linux, I'd love to hear any recommendations you have!

Honestly, you're probably better off flashing an AOSP-based Android ROM like LineageOS instead of trying to install a Linux distro on it. It’ll give you a smoother experience!
I can confirm from experience that there aren't Linux distros you can install directly on an Android tablet like yours. I'd recommend flashing a custom ROM like LineageOS. I also did this on my Tab A7 (2020), and it improved performance significantly!
Just a heads-up: there really aren't Linux distributions meant for Android devices. Although Android itself is built on Linux, what you'll mainly find are alternative ROMs that might give you a newer Android version than what's officially available. Just be careful, though, since many ROMs may come from smaller projects and could risk your device's stability.
That's awesome! By the way, does the touchscreen still work well with LineageOS? What about using a stylus?
