I'm fairly new to Linux, having just installed Linux Mint on an old laptop about a month ago, and I'm really enjoying it! Now, I'm looking for some recommendations on a Linux distribution that would be great for a home media PC. I plan to hook it up to my living room TV for watching YouTube, movies, and maybe even streaming games. It needs to be user-friendly since my roommates will be using it too. Should I go for a specialized media distro or stick with a simpler desktop version?

I’ve had a MythTV box running Linux since 2004, started with a variant of Ubuntu and currently use Linux Mint. I’d recommend Mint or Ubuntu for a setup where you want Jellyfin and the ability to stream outside your home.
For my home media PC, I’m using Linux Mint and it's working perfectly for me. It’s user-friendly and handles everything I need for streaming.
It really depends on what you're hoping to do with it. I’m using Nobara Linux with Minidlna for streaming via my PS3, and it works great! If you want access outside your home network, consider using Jellyfin. The software might be more critical than the distro itself.
I think Debian with XFCE is a solid choice. It's pretty lightweight and lets you install only what you need. But honestly, Linux Mint is already a fantastic option out of the box, so you can't go wrong there.
