What’s the Best Upgrade from a 5600X on AM4 in 2025?

I'm not ready to move to an AM5 setup yet, but I'm looking to upgrade from my 5600X to something that's more powerful. I currently have a 3080 graphics card but plan to get a 5080 in the future. Is my AM4 system good enough to pair with a better CPU? Also, is a 1000W power supply sufficient? It's been about five years since I really looked into PC parts, so I'm a bit out of the loop.

If you're gaming, the best AM4 upgrade would be the 5700X3D or the 5800X3D. But honestly, they’re pretty scarce and pricey now. If you're playing at 1440p or 4K, you should probably wait and just save for that AM5 setup. The 1000W PSU will be more than enough for your 5080, no worries there.

The only decent AM4 CPUs left are the X3D models. The 5800X3D is the top performer, but they’re hard to find and a bit overpriced now. You might want to consider the 5800XT if that one suits your needs better for gaming.

I recently faced this dilemma too! I went for the AM5 upgrade, and it made a world of difference in performance with my 3080. I’d suggest weighing the long-term benefits of AM5 against hunting down a pricey AM4 CPU. If you find an X3D chip, go for it, but otherwise, AM5 would likely be the move!

Honestly, if you can find a reasonably priced X3D chip, that's your best bet. Otherwise, you might be better off just waiting for the AM5 systems to drop prices. Your current PSU is adequate for AM4, especially since those chips aren’t super power-hungry.

It might be time to bite the bullet and look into a whole new AM5 setup. The X3D chips are great, but the prices have skyrocketed. If you stumble upon one for a decent price, snag it, but prepare to move to AM5 soon—a new build might be more cost-effective in the long run.
