I'm in a bit of a pickle here because my entire home is carpeted except for the kitchen and bathroom. I really don't want to build a PC there either since it's not practical. I've heard that building on carpet can be risky because of static electricity possibly damaging the components. Does anyone have suggestions on how to safely build a PC on carpet or minimize the risks?

Sounds like you've got a real carpet conundrum! If possible, try to clean off a desk or table somewhere and build it there instead of on the floor. Also, consider getting an anti-static strap to protect your components. Building in the bathroom or kitchen could lead to accidents like breaking your case, so definitely avoid that if you can.
I'd recommend using an anti-static wristband. Plug your power supply into the wall while keeping the switch turned off to ground yourself. This way, not only are you minimizing static risk, but you're also prepared to power it up once you're ready.
It's all about grounding! Before you start building, just ground yourself to reduce the risk of static damaging your parts. Using a table or surface, even temporarily, can help a lot.
