I have a laptop with Windows 11 installed on my only SSD, and I want to completely wipe it since I'm planning to run a different operating system. Since I don't have another PC to assist with formatting, I need to know how to do this from within my laptop. I'm pretty new to these things and after many Google searches, I'm still unsure about the best steps to take. Any advice?

If your BIOS doesn't have a secure wipe option, you can boot up Ubuntu from a live USB stick and wipe the SSD from there. It's a reliable method and can be quite simple to do!
Do you have a USB drive? If so, you can use it to create a bootable installation media for Windows or another OS, which will allow you to format the SSD during the installation process. It's a pretty straightforward way to get your SSD wiped clean!
When you boot from the installation media for your new OS (whether it's Linux or Windows), the setup process will handle the formatting for you. Look for an option that says something like "use the entire drive" during the setup, and it should all be taken care of automatically. Happy installing!
You might want to check your BIOS or UEFI menu for a feature called Secure Erase. Just make sure you're completely okay with removing Windows and all other data, as this will wipe everything from the drive. Good luck!
Yeah, I just tried Windows 11 to get a feel for it but I found I don't really like it. I installed it on my ancient Thinkpad X201, so I'll see if it has the Secure Erase feature. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah, I've got a USB! I'm planning to use the Windows Installer to delete and format the partitions there, but I wanted to make sure I ask first since I'm not super tech savvy.
