Hey everyone! I need some advice about transferring 2TB of music files from my old Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex to a new SSD. I have an M1 Mac Mini with a couple of TB3/USB4 ports. I'm curious about where the bottleneck will happen during this transfer. Will the old Seagate drive affect the speed, or will it mainly depend on the TB3/USB4 connections? Thanks in advance!

You have to consider the read speed of the old drive versus the write speed of the new SSD, along with the connections in between. Most likely, the HDD's read speed will be the slowest part of the process. So, unless your new SSD is drastically faster and you plan on using it for other things later, getting a super fast SSD might not be worth it just for this transfer.

Got it. So it sounds like the SSD won't make much difference for this transfer, huh?
