What’s the Deal with 1080p vs. 1080p (Low Resolution) in Display Settings?

I just got a new 1080p projector that runs at 60Hz. However, when I connected it, I was only able to get 1080p at 30Hz. In the display settings, I managed to switch to "1080p (low resolution)," and then the 60Hz option showed up again. I'm curious about the actual difference between the regular 1080p and the low-resolution option because the picture looks pretty much the same to me.

Totally get what you're saying! The difference generally comes down to how the projector processes the signal. The "low resolution" mode often scales down the image, allowing the projector to perform better, especially on budget models that might falsely advertise 4K support. It’s not unusual for these cheaper projectors to not deliver true 1080p at higher refresh rates.

It sounds like what you're experiencing is related to how the projector handles different resolutions and refresh rates. Sometimes, using a low resolution setting can enable higher refresh rates because it demands less from the projector's hardware. Your projector might not be able to handle full 1080p at higher Hz, which is why switching to the low res option makes the 60Hz available again.
