What’s the deal with my case and PSU power connectors being male and female?

I'm a bit puzzled about the power connectors in my case and power supply unit (PSU). My case has a hardwired cable with a male connector on the inside, while the PSU has a standard female power connector. I thought the hardwired cable would plug into the PSU's female connector, but there's no room for the cable to fit through the PSU opening in the back of the case. Do I just leave the hardwired cable loose and not connect it, or is there something I'm missing?

You might have a case that's designed for setups with specific types of PSUs. The hardwired cable could be there to connect directly to certain models. If you’re not going for a specialized build, you might be able to ignore it and just plug the PSU straight into the outlet. Double-check things like the case model and manual, as it might give you some insights.

The cable from your case is likely meant to connect to the PSU in a specific way, especially if it's something for non-standard setups. If getting the PSU to fit properly is tricky, you could consider just removing that built-in power cable and running your PSU power cord directly. Some builds have this kind of arrangement.

It sounds like your case might have a unique setup. Typically, most cases don’t come with a power cable like that. Are you sure it’s not just an extender or for a specific PSU type? A pic of the back might help figure it out better. Also, have you looked at the manual? That usually clarifies how everything should be connected.

You could be getting set up for future upgrades, like the theoretical RTX 7090TI! But seriously, if the case isn't fitting the standard PSU, you should consider the option of leaving that hardwired cable unused.
