What’s the Ideal Desk Depth for a 27″ Monitor?

I've been using laptops for a decade, but I've finally upgraded to a 27" monitor for my new PC setup! However, I'm wondering what desk dimensions I should aim for. My current desk is really subpar, and I want to get a proper one. Is a desk depth of 70cm enough to keep the monitor at a comfortable distance from my eyes? Would going for a depth of 75cm or even 80cm be better? Also, I'm considering the length—would 120cm suffice, or should I opt for something longer like 180cm? I'd love to hear about your desk setups and dimensions that you find most comfortable for a home office and gaming environment!

I'd say 70cm is ideal for a 27" monitor, but make sure your setup is comfortable. The ergonomic rule I learned is to stretch your arm forward and your fingertips should just barely touch the screen. If possible, also keep the top of the monitor at eye level. If you can swing 80cm depth, it’ll just give you that extra bit of comfort.

That's really helpful! 80cm depth seems to be the way to go. I want to feel comfy working without worrying about my eyes.

I currently use a 200x100 cm desk to keep everything organized and it's the best decision I've made. If you want a spacious workspace, go as large as you can. It'll give you flexibility for everything from work to gaming. Just make sure it fits your space well!

I love the idea of having a big desk for everything! But I also have to think about getting a second desk for my girlfriend, so I hope to balance that space.

In my experience, 60cm is okay for a smaller monitor, but for a 27" display, 70cm is your minimum. I have a 70cm desk and it's perfect for my setup. But if I could fit it, I would love something wider, like 80cm, for more keyboard and mouse space. Consider your future needs too, like a second monitor!

Great point! I need to think long-term as I want to have a second monitor too. Opting for a larger desk now seems smart.

For me, an 80cm depth feels perfect! I initially started with a 70cm desk, but I found it too cramped especially with my mic, keyboard, and coffee mug all on the surface. I ended up getting a larger 80x120 cm desk, and I could easily manage an even bigger one with how much stuff I like to have around. If you want some space, definitely consider going for 80cm depth!

Thanks for the tip! I'm seriously leaning toward the 80cm option now. My current desk is borderline at 70cm, so the extra depth sounds like a good idea.
