What’s the most overpriced approval tool you’ve used?

I'm looking for opinions on approval tools used for hardware, software, or access requests that you think are way too overpriced compared to the value they provide. What specific features or improvements would persuade you to switch to a different tool? I'm in the process of developing a leaner alternative, so your insights would be incredibly helpful!

ITSM platforms can really nickel and dime you for every extra feature. In our SMB, we're paying nearly $80k/year for SNOW and have to manage everything ourselves, pushing our total costs close to $200k yearly for just a complicated ticket system. It’s getting out of hand!

We're in the same boat and finally fed up with SNOW. We're looking to ditch it in the next couple of years.

I'm looking for a cloud-based ticketing system with an approval workflow included. The options seem to either do too much or cost an arm and a leg. What I want is something straightforward, with a clean UI and SSO with O365 that doesn't break the bank!

I'm finding Freshservice works well for us, but I'm not sure about its cost.

Why not just handle approvals in the helpdesk like any other issue? I don’t see the need for a dedicated tool.

I think most people agree that it's best to buy an ITSM platform that already has the approval process built-in. If you don't want a full platform, why not just create something simple using Teams or your team's favorite collaboration tool?

That's exactly my take! We just dumped our old ITSM because it couldn't automate workflows for approvals. Now we’re using a new platform that includes that feature. If someone had pitched me an approval app that integrates seamlessly, I might have considered it, but ultimately, we needed the full package.

Honestly, a lot of these tools are getting ridiculously priced! Vendors are changing their pricing models to charge by user licensing, and it feels like we're just getting squeezed. Just take a look at SNOW, M365, and WorkDay—they're all costing us way more than we expected. Once you invest in them and set everything up, switching to something else might incur huge costs which makes it tough to move. Just venting here, but it’s frustrating!

Totally agree!
