What’s Your Go-To Method for Taking Notes?

I’ve tried various methods, but I find that a combination works best. When I’m on the move, nothing beats a classic engineer’s notebook with colored pens. But when I’m at my desk, I usually stick with VIM for writing notes and diagrams. Would be great if IDEs could integrate everything seamlessly!

I mainly use Visual Studio Code with a markdown plugin. It’s straightforward and integrates well with my development tasks. That way, I can keep track of everything in one place with a clean format.

I've been using OneNote for about ten years for everything—personal stuff, school, work, and my business. I also carry a physical notepad with me, along with a couple of pens and a mechanical pencil, for taking notes when I’m away from my computer. I jot down anything I think I might need to remember, like important dates, key names, and essential task steps. My notes can get pretty minimal and a bit messy, but I often revise them shortly after I write them so I can be sure I understand everything later. I find that taking notes helps me pay attention better and reduces the mental load since I don’t have to memorize everything. It’s almost like a mind-relaxer for me!

For years, I’ve used Apple Notes along with the Getting Things Done (GTD) system. It takes some effort to set up at first, but it’s totally worth it once you get the hang of it. It keeps everything organized and actionable!

I just keep it simple with a notepad—nothing fancy at all. I find it’s quick and easy for jotting down thoughts on the go!
