When Is It Okay to Ask for Help at Work?

I've been struggling with a really tough project at my new sysadmin job since I got promoted three months ago. Coming from a Helpdesk background, I'm feeling overwhelmed and unsure about how and when to ask for help. I've been tasked with migrating to Office 365 from a barely functional email server, all while juggling other responsibilities. I thought a hybrid migration would work, but nothing is going smoothly, and I'm feeling lost. I'm worried about appearing incompetent and dread going to work every day, especially since I'm still figuring things out. I wanted to know how others approach asking for help, particularly when it feels like there's no obvious solution, and how to seek professional help when needed. My team is great, and my boss is supportive, but I don't want to admit that I need to turn to external resources.

Asking for help is not a weakness! It’s more about showing you’re willing to learn and solve problems. If anyone makes you feel inadequate for reaching out, that's a big red flag about the company culture. Don't let that fear stop you from asking for assistance – it's a sign you're trying to improve, not that you can't handle it!

I totally agree! It's way better to ask for help early on than to wait until things really go south.
