When Should I Reseat My Thermal Paste?

Hey everyone! I've done some searching but still couldn't find a solid answer, so I thought I'd ask here for some clarity. My focus isn't really on performance right now, but rather on reducing noise from my system. I want to ensure I won't have to worry about this for another five years.

I've got two systems, and my main one is about 5 years old. Temperature-wise, my CPU is doing fine, but I have a couple of GPUs (a 2060 and a 1660ti) that are also over 5 years old.

Here are my questions:
1. Should I be re-pasting both systems, especially the GPUs?
2. Is there a long-lasting thermal paste you'd recommend?
3. I've heard thermal pads can dry out after five years – is that true?
4. What's the process for replacing thermal pads? Is using K5 safe for GPUs?

In most cases, you really don’t need to repaste unless you’re noticing high temperatures. As long as your thermal paste is still viscous, it’s working fine. You typically only run into issues if you see unusually high temps at idle. If something is off, then sure, consider repasting; but don’t jump into it if you’re not having temp problems.

Thanks for that! What temperatures should I be worried about? Like, 80°C or more?
