I'm currently managing a PowerEdge R540 for a business, and it seems the previous administrator only updated Windows, leaving many drivers and firmware behind. I've got a list of the updates needed, and while I know very little about their release dates, they don't appear to be excessively outdated. I'm curious how old the driver, firmware, and BIOS versions should be before it's advisable to update them in steps, for instance, a year at a time. Are there specific components like BIOS or iDRAC that definitely need to be updated step-by-step, while I can leap ahead with others? I read somewhere about upgrading incrementally from a Dell support forum; is that a good guideline, or is it better to go with major version jumps (like 1.2 straight to 3.0)? Thanks!

Before starting, ensure everything is backed up. In general, you can probably update everything to the latest versions without issues. Just keep an eye out for any special notes from Dell regarding specific components.
