When Will RDS r8g Reservations Be Available?

Hey everyone! I'm curious if anyone has any updated info on when RDS r8g reservations will become available. Our current reservations have expired, and from what we've seen, the r8g instances offer some solid performance improvements. However, transitioning to an on-demand model has significantly increased our costs. I've tried reaching out to support, but they couldn't provide a clear answer. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

I don't have any news on reservations, but here are some useful links where you might find more info:

I can't confirm when the RIs for r8g will roll out, but I’ve noticed that the discounts for r7g were pretty underwhelming compared to r6g. For example, the no upfront discount for Aurora dropped significantly. Just something to consider while weighing your options on performance vs. cost!

Exactly, that's why we passed on r7g. The potential gains with r8g seem worth the extra cost! On-demand pricing for r8g is pretty similar to r7g, so I’m hoping the reservations reflect that too.

I don't have the exact date for the RDS r8g reservations, but I did switch from r6g12x to r8g8x and noticed better performance for roughly the same cost. So, the upgrades really do seem worth it!

That's interesting! We're making a similar transition from r6g to r8g and found the CPU usage dropped a lot, which could allow us to downsize our instance. Just waiting to see how it handles production traffic before we finalize the size.
