I'm in the process of building a budget-friendly PC and am planning to get a motherboard that supports the AM5 socket to ensure it remains relevant for years to come. I'm looking for advice on the best AM5 processor to buy right now without breaking the bank. Since I plan to upgrade my CPU later, I want to know which Ryzen models offer the best value for the price. I've read that the 8000 series isn't great due to low cache, so I'm focusing on the 7000 and 9000 series. I'm considering whether to invest in a Ryzen 7, which has 8 cores and would be beneficial for gaming and streaming, or if I should stick with a Ryzen 5 for now and upgrade later. What do you think offers the best price-to-performance ratio between Ryzen 5 and 7, and why?

If you can get a package deal, like the Ryzen 7700X bundled with some extra RAM, it might be worth it. But generally, Ryzen 7 models are about 50% more expensive and usually don’t give as good a performance per dollar compared to Ryzen 5 or the 7600X, which are excellent for games. When considering upgrades, think about how often you really need those extra cores. If your main focus is gaming, sticking with Ryzen 5 might serve you well.

So if I'm just gaming and doing some streaming, should I just go for the 7600 then? Forget about Ryzen 7 for now?

I know this is a big investment, but I’d be careful with financing options. Consider saving up for a good build rather than buying on installments. You might want to check out pre-built options or combos at places like Microcenter or Newegg to get better deals. Sometimes going for something like an AMD Ryzen 7 7700X with a bundle could save you cash in the long run if it's a good offer.

The 7500 and 7600 are both great for gaming and multitasking. Unless you're planning to do heavy video editing or need lots of cores, Ryzen 5 will probably suit you perfectly. So don’t feel pressured to jump to Ryzen 7 unless you really need those additional cores. A lot of games run just fine on 6 cores!

Right now, the Ryzen 7600X is an excellent choice for value at around $158, especially if you pair it with a decent cooler. It's a solid gaming CPU and provides great performance without costing a fortune. Also, the 7600 is slightly cheaper than the 7600X and offers almost the same performance for gaming—only about 2% slower. If you find the 7500F for $135-$150, that's also a steal, but just remember these are OEM CPUs, so there's limited warranty. In terms of cores, most games run well with 6 cores, so you might be fine with Ryzen 5 unless you need the extra power for streaming.

That's good to know! I was worried about not having enough cores for gaming and streaming simultaneously. But it sounds like Ryzen 5 could handle it for now.
