Which AMD CPU Should I Choose: 7800X3D, 9800X3D, or 9850X3D?

I'm looking to upgrade my build from an i9-9900K, and I've got my eye on some AMD CPUs. Currently, I'm torn between three options:

1. Ryzen 7 7800X3D for about $600
2. Ryzen 7 9800X3D for around $670
3. Ryzen 7 9850X3D priced at about $700

While I know any of these will be a solid upgrade over my current CPU, I'm trying to figure out if the price differences reflect significant performance gains. Is the jump from the 7800 to the 9800 worth the extra $70? And if so, would it make more sense to just go for the 9850? I want to ensure I'm making a good decision in terms of price-to-performance, especially considering I have a 3080Ti and two 4K monitors, one of which is 165Hz. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Based on the gaming performance, the difference between the 7800X3D and the 9850X3D is roughly 10% at 1080p with a high-end GPU like the RTX 5090. This difference shrinks even further at higher resolutions or lower-end GPUs.

If it were me, I'd spend a bit extra to get the best gaming CPU out there since you're already investing in a solid setup. But ultimately, it's about how much you're willing to spend!

That's true, and for 4K gaming on your main monitor, going for the latest hardware might be a smart call! I get that having a newer CPU can be reassuring, just making sure it's worth that price tag.
