I recently completed an associate's degree in information technology and I'm looking to earn an AWS certification to boost my chances of landing my first job in tech. What certification would you recommend for someone just starting out, and what entry-level positions should I focus on applying for? I don't have any formal work experience in the field, only self-taught skills.

An AWS certification might not really help with landing your very first IT job, which will likely be helpdesk-related. It might feel like a waste of time and money at this stage.

Congrats on your associate's degree! I'd actually recommend aiming for a bachelor's degree when you can; larger companies often require it. However, I get that it might not be feasible right now.

There’s a big difference between being trained and being certified. For your first job, hands-on experience is crucial. Certifications are more about showing that you understand the basics, but you'll want practical skills to impress hiring managers.

Honestly, I'd suggest skipping the AWS cert for now. Your best bet is to apply for as many help desk positions as you can. They'll give you a foot in the door and help you gain the experience that employers are really looking for.
