Which AWS Certification Should I Pursue First?

I'm looking to get my first AWS certification. I already have experience with GCP and I'm certified as an Associate Cloud Engineer. I've also deployed some applications on AWS (specifically EC2 for university projects). Now, I'm trying to decide between starting with the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or the AWS Certified Developer – Associate. Any advice on which one to go for first?

If you're still feeling unsure and have limited knowledge of AWS, starting with the Cloud Practitioner cert is a good move.

I recommend starting with the Cloud Practitioner certification. It's generally quicker to study for and pass. Plus, when you get certified, AWS gives you a 50% discount code that you can use on your next exam. This way, if you pass the foundational cert and then go for the associate cert using that discount, you'll end up spending the same as just taking the associate cert outright. Also, keep an eye out for promotions from Pearson Vue; they sometimes offer free retakes, which is a great safety net if you're nervous about exams!

If you’re leaning towards DevOps, you might want to go for the Solutions Architect - Associate certification instead. But if you're more focused on development, the Developer Associate cert is the right call. I suggest taking a quick look at the Cloud Practitioner exam material first, and then go for that. Once you pass, you can take advantage of the 50% discount on the next exam!
