Which CPU Should I Choose for Gaming and Development: Ryzen 5 9600X or Ryzen 7 9700X?

I'm building a PC for semi-pro Apex Legends and also play games like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077. My planned build can be found here: [pcpartpicker.com/list/np6fz](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/np6fzP). Right now, I have the Ryzen 5 9600X, but I'm considering whether it's worth spending an extra $100 for the Ryzen 7 9700X. I game at 1440p and also do full-stack development work using Docker, databases, and AI tools like Whisper, which means I often have several services running at the same time. From what I understand, the 9700X offers 2 additional cores and 4 threads, which could enhance multitasking, provide a slight FPS increase in games, and improve productivity. Is the 9700X a noticeable upgrade, or is the 9600X sufficient for my needs? I'd appreciate any insights you have regarding this or my overall build!

Just to add, don't forget that some upcoming games might benefit from an 8 core CPU, like Borderlands 4. Just something to keep in mind!

Good point! I've been hearing mixed things about upcoming games demanding more cores. Worth considering.

Keep an eye on your CPU usage while you're working or gaming. If you notice all 6 cores of the 9600X maxed out at 100%, that might be a sign it’s time to upgrade. Otherwise, you should be alright!

Both CPUs are pretty similar in performance, honestly. I’m not sure if spending an extra $100 for the small difference is justified, especially if you’re more focused on gaming. The 9600X should handle your gaming needs just fine!
