I'm trying to decide between the i5-14600KF and the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D for my new PC build. This setup will be used primarily for high-end gaming and intensive video editing. I'm open to spending a bit more if it's worth the upgrade, but I've heard the i5 offers a great value. I'm concerned that the Ryzen has more cores, which could improve multitasking but I'm not sure how significant the performance difference really is at this price point.

Resolution plays a big role in the outcome. If you're gaming at 1080p, you'll see a noticeable gap between the two. However, at higher resolutions, like 1440p, the performance difference shrinks. The 9800X3D is particularly good at handling those pesky 1% lows, making gameplay a lot smoother.
It really comes down to your budget and specific use cases. Honestly, I’d pick the 9800X3D without a second thought for performance. It tends to outperform the i5, especially in high-demand tasks like gaming and editing. If you're serious about both, the extra money could be worth it!
What's the price difference for you, anyway?
What GPU are you going to pair with that CPU?
I just got an RTX 4070 Super, but I might upgrade it in the future.
I’ll be gaming on a 2560x1440 OLED monitor at 240Hz.
