I'm in the process of setting up my new AM5 PC soon and I've already purchased 32GB of Crucial Pro RAM at 6000MHz with a CAS latency of 48 (got it for a great price!). Now I'm stuck between choosing the Ryzen 7 9700X and the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. I do a lot of heavy gaming using my RX 9070 XT and I'm also working on my own video game using Unreal Engine 5 and Blender. I've heard that the 9700X is better for productivity tasks, but I'm unsure which CPU will serve my needs better overall. There's only a 60 euro price difference between them, which is about 70 US dollars. To summarize: should I go for the 9700X or the 7800X3D, considering my gaming and game development tasks?

If your main focus is gaming, definitely opt for the 7800X3D. But if you’re doing a lot of productivity work such as rendering and development, the 9700X will be more beneficial.
There's not a massive difference. The 9700X is about 10% better for productivity, while the 7800X3D has a similar advantage for gaming. Both CPUs have 8 cores, so they're already solid for productivity. Also, the 7800X3D tends to handle RAM timings better, which may be something to consider with your CAS latency. If you want to lean towards productivity more, the 7900X has 4 extra cores and is in a similar price range. Either way, you’re going to get a great build, so don’t stress too much about it!
Have you considered the Ryzen 9 7900X? I see it priced lower than the 7800X3D here, and with its 12 cores, it could significantly improve your workflow and performance in rendering tasks.
Think about this: would you prefer slightly longer render times or higher frame rates? The 7800X3D can be a bit slower for productivity, but still quite powerful for gaming.
I’ve also been doing research on these processors. Generally, if you are only gaming, the 7800X3D is a great pick. However, since you're involved in other activities, the 9700X might be the better option. Plus, with some tweaks in BIOS, you can improve the performance of the 9700X significantly. I’m leaning towards the 9700X myself for this reason.
