Which CPU Should I Choose for My RTX 3070?

I'm looking to upgrade my CPU to better match my RTX 3070, which I installed a few years back but haven't upgraded the rest of my build since my i5 8400 was from about 10 years ago. I'm mainly playing games like Apex Legends and Forza Horizon, the latter of which I struggle to run smoothly right now. I saw some deals on the Ryzen 5 7600X3D at Microcenter, but I'm worried that might be too much for my needs. I'm also considering the i5 12400F as a more budget-friendly option. Any recommendations would be helpful!

The 7600X3D and the 7700X might seem like overkill, but that's actually good—they'll give you extra headroom for faster GPUs later. Plus, the 7700X bundle being around $370 is a killer deal!

That's a good point! I hadn't noticed the 7700 bundle was cheaper.

Currently, AMD seems to be the best choice for gaming builds. If you want to get into a new platform affordably, the 7600X and 9600X are great. For a bit more future-proofing, consider the 9700X or 7800X3D as they have more cores and better V-cache for gaming.

Thanks for the input! I'm definitely leaning towards the AMD option for flexibility down the line.

If you think you might upgrade your GPU in the future, go for the best CPU you can afford now. The 7600X3D is solid for that setup! Might be worth the investment for future gaming.

Good way to look at it, thanks!
