I'm currently using an i5-10400F and I'm looking to upgrade my system. I'm considering either the AMD 5700X or the Intel i5-12600K/KF, but I want to stick with DDR4 memory at 3200MHz. I understand that while the i5-12600K is designed for DDR5, it may not perform well with DDR4. Meanwhile, the 5700X is built for DDR4. What do you think would be the best option for me?

14th gen Intel also supports DDR4, so that could be a solid path if you’re looking to keep using DDR4.
From my perspective, the 12600K is the best choice. If your budget allows, the 14600K is an even better option. You’ll be able to upgrade from the 12600K to the 14600K and still use your current RAM.
I'd go with the 12600K. It offers better performance and has more upgrade potential down the line. Plus, if you get some quality Samsung B-die RAM, you won’t see much loss in performance compared to DDR5, especially if the DDR5 options you're looking at are Hynix.
If you're deciding between AM4 and LGA 1700, I'd lean towards LGA 1700. Grab a motherboard that supports upgrades to the 14th generation, since they usually outperform most AM4 CPUs in gaming. There might be a slight performance dip using DDR4, but it's not significant.
You might want to consider the 14600K instead. It’s a better option overall. However, I understand it doubles the price of the 12600KF here, which might not be worth it.
The 12600K is the way to go. It's a stronger CPU with a lot of room for future upgrades.
