Which CPU Should I Upgrade to for My 4070 Ti Super Without Switching to DDR5?

I'm currently using an i5-10400 with a 4070 Ti Super graphics card, playing at 1440p. I'm noticing that my performance in CPU-heavy games isn't as good as I'd expect and sometimes I experience slowdowns, which makes me think my CPU is holding me back. I'm looking to upgrade my CPU but I'd prefer to stick with DDR4 for now since DDR5 is quite pricey at the moment. Can anyone suggest a good CPU and motherboard combo that would work well with DDR4 and could last me a few years? Mostly, I'm focused on gaming performance.

You should consider getting a B550 motherboard and use your existing DDR4 RAM with a Ryzen 5800X. This combination should cost around $300 and will significantly outperform your current setup. The 5800X is well-suited to keep pace with the 4070 Ti Super in most scenarios. If you're lucky, you might find a great deal on a Ryzen 5700X3D, which could be an even better option!

I just got a 5800X and a B550 board for about $300 from an online retailer. It's a fantastic deal for that kind of performance!

For a solid upgrade, look into the 5800X with a B550 motherboard, or the 14600K paired with a B760 or Z790 motherboard. They should give similar performance, although the 14600K may not perform as well with DDR4 compared to DDR5. If cost is a concern, the Ryzen 5600 or 5600X are also good alternatives that perform closely to the 5800X in gaming.

If you're trying to save money, the Ryzen 5600X is a great option. It offers excellent gaming performance without breaking the bank!

If your budget allows, consider switching to a setup with DDR5. Your current CPU is pretty outdated, especially when paired with a higher-end GPU like the 4070 Ti Super. An upgrade will definitely help you get better performance overall!
