Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my GPU and I can't decide between the RTX 4070 and the RX 7800 XT. I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I want something that will last a while. I usually play games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Elden Ring, Cyberpunk, and Hogwarts. I know the 7800 XT has better raw performance, but it doesn't support DLSS. Is it worth giving up DLSS for that? Also, can someone explain how the VRAM differs between the two? Any suggestions for other options would be appreciated!

If you're really tight on budget and not looking to buy second-hand, I’d say skip the last-gen GPUs unless there's a great deal. Maybe wait for the 5070 or RX 9060 XT 16GB, but I get that budget constraints can be a big factor.
Honestly, if you’re in India, it might be tricky as prices for newer RTX 50 series are pretty high there! Many places have raised the prices on these cards, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for deals or alternatives!
Yeah, it's tough to find reasonable prices here for the RTX 50 series.
Ultimately, I'd lean towards the 4070 for its DLSS support. It's packed with 12GB of VRAM, which is suitable for 1080p and 1440p gaming at 60-120 fps, plus you get the benefits of modern ray tracing.
If both GPUs are priced the same, I would suggest going for the 4070. I've had the Asus Dual OC version, and it handled 1440p gaming beautifully for those titles you mentioned.
Yeah, the 4070 is a bit pricier, but if it performs better in the long run, I’d lean that way.
You're right to prioritize VRAM if you don't upgrade often. DLSS is significant, way ahead of FSR 3 on the 7800 XT. However, FSR is improving, and there are other upscaling options like Lossless Scaling to consider too. If you want longevity, the 7800 XT or even looking at an NVIDIA card with 16GB might serve you better than the 4070 in a couple of years.
I haven’t heard of Lossless Scaling. What is it?
In terms of future games, you're right that they'll demand more VRAM and good ray tracing performance.
I can't afford that right now, though!
