I'm putting together my first gaming PC and I'm considering my graphics card options. My build includes a Ryzen 5600 processor, 32GB of DDR4 3000MHz RAM, a B550 motherboard, and a Seasonic Focus Pro 650W power supply. I'm planning to connect a 1440p monitor, but I haven't decided on one yet. My top choices for the GPU are the RX 6800 XT priced around €380-€390 and the RTX 3080 priced around €350-€360. Given my current setup and budget, which graphics card would be the better choice? I should note that the RTX 4070 is out of my price range, so I'm focused on these two options.

Honestly, the 3080 does have an edge in raster performance, plus it has better ray tracing capabilities if that's important to you. But note that ray tracing can really hit performance. If you don't plan on using ray tracing often, the RX 6800 XT might keep you under budget and still deliver great performance at 1440p.
If gaming is your main focus, the RX 6800 XT is a solid choice. However, if you plan on doing any productivity work, the RTX 3080 might suit you better because of its performance and access to DLSS. Just make sure your PSU can handle it; 650W might be tight.
What’s the deal with FSR and ray tracing compatibility? I’m coming from a laptop with integrated graphics, so I’m not too familiar with those features.
I’d recommend going for the RX 6800 XT, especially considering it has more VRAM which could be beneficial for future games. That said, just keep an eye on your PSU. 650W should be close to the minimum for this card, and there can be some transient power spikes. You might want to consider a more robust power supply if you're planning to push the hardware.
Is the 6800 XT generally more powerful or efficient than the RTX 3080?
I've heard similar concerns about stability; my 3080 was a little unstable with a 750W PSU and often rebooted under load. Better safe than sorry with your power supply!
Make sure to swap your PSU for at least a 750W unit to give yourself more headroom. Your 650W is a bit risky for either of these GPUs, especially with transient spikes. Also, looking at the RX 9060 XT 16GB might be worth considering if you're not set on either option yet, as it's often available for a good price.
That’s a solid point. I bought a new PSU when I experienced stability issues with my previous setup, and it solved everything. Better to do that than deal with constant reboots!

I've seen some benchmarks where the 6800 XT actually performs better without ray tracing, but it's variable across different games. But I think both cards are good bets depending on what features matter to you.
