I'm trying to decide between buying an RX 9070 for about $650 or an RTX 3080Ti for $480 from Microcenter. The 9070 is roughly $200 more expensive after taxes. Here's my current setup: a Ryzen 7800X3D, a 2080Ti, and a 1440p display, and I don't plan on upgrading to 4K any time soon. My main concern is whether the 12GB VRAM of the 9070 will be necessary for future-proofing my gaming at 1440p. Have any of you found that 12GB is inadequate without ray tracing, or should I relax on this?

Honestly, I don’t believe the 9070 offers $200+ in performance over the 3080Ti. It's only about 15-20% faster, and for that price difference, I’m not sure it’s worth it. But yeah, the 16GB VRAM of the 9070 is tempting if you’re worried about future-proofing at 1440p. It might be worth considering depending on what games you plan to play.
Getting a 3080Ti for $500 seems like a sweet deal! I wouldn't recommend going up to $650-700 for a 9070, though. It's not a drastic upgrade, so the savings might be better spent elsewhere.
I recommend holding off until GPU prices normalize. Your 2080Ti should still handle most games nicely. With technologies like DLSS, the 20 series cards are holding up really well. If you can snag a 3080Ti around $500, that’s a solid deal! I wouldn’t go for the 9070 at the higher price right now.
True, I can still get decent performance with my current card. I'll keep an eye on the market for a better deal!
Honestly, neither of these options looks great right now. There are definitely better cards out there for the price, but it really depends on your needs. If you've got a specific game in mind, that could change the recommendations.
What other cards do you think could be a better option?
Right? The price hike seems steep for the performance difference. The extra VRAM is nice, but it might not make a huge impact at 1440p without ray tracing.
