Which is better for my Ryzen 5: DDR5 7200 CL38 or 6400 CL32?

Hey everyone! I recently got myself a Ryzen 5 9600X and a 32GB Kingston Fury Renegade kit. It offers a few DOCP presets: 7200 CL38, 6800 CL36, and 6400 CL32. I'm trying to figure out whether I should prioritize lower latency at 6400 or go for the slightly higher latency at 7200. What do you think is the better option?

Honestly, many AMD CPUs struggle to hit 6400 MHz, so going for 7200 might be pushing it. I'd suggest aiming for 6000 MHz with CL28 if possible, as that's usually a sweet spot for performance.

Some may argue that getting 6400 is possible, but the real challenge is maintaining that 1:1 ratio with the infinity fabric.

Yeah, a lot of it boils down to how you set up your timings and ratios.

It's important to consider that RAM frequency and latency aren't the only factors at play. For your Ryzen CPU's performance, the RAM speed really should align with your CPU's Infinity Fabric speed. While 6400 could work well, 7200 might have compatibility issues.

Check out Hardware Unboxed; they have good videos on how RAM speed influences overall performance, which could give you some insight.

A good rule of thumb is to divide the MHz rating by the latency. The higher that number, the better the latency and overall performance.

If you go with 6400 CL32, just make sure you keep it 1:1. If it defaults to a 2:1 ratio, that's going to hurt performance. Try it at 6400 first and adjust the timings manually if you need to. You might find that 6000 CL30 timings work well for you.
