I'm trying to decide between two laptops for school: a refurbished MacBook Air from 2020 with the M1 chip and a new Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15ALC7. The MacBook specs are pretty impressive with an M1 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD, but I'm worried that the 8GB of RAM might not be adequate for my needs. On the other hand, the Lenovo IdeaPad has an AMD Ryzen 7 5700U CPU, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD. My main concern there is whether its CPU/GPU can handle my workload. Both laptops are priced the same. What are your thoughts on which one I should go for?

If you're planning on education that might require more demanding software, like anything related to design or video editing, I'd suggest going with the Lenovo. The MacBook is nice, but the RAM really is a concern for future-proofing your setup. Plus, that 512GB SSD is a big plus for storage.
It really depends on what you'll be doing in school. If you're not diving into graphic-intensive courses, the MacBook should serve you well with its solid performance. Just keep in mind that 8GB of RAM might limit you down the line if you have many apps open at once. But if multitasking is important, the IdeaPad with 16GB RAM could be the better option. It’s also worth noting that the Ryzen CPU is no slouch and should handle most tasks without issue.
Good point! If you think you'll need more power in the future, I'd lean towards the IdeaPad. It’s better to have extra RAM now than to be stuck later.

Exactly, storage can be critical! I'll need to make sure I have enough for all my school projects and files.
