Which Linux Distro is Best for Gamers and Hardware Tweakers Coming from Windows?

I'm currently a Windows user who plays a lot of games on Steam, Battle.net, and likes to tweak my hardware. My setup includes an AMD 5800X3D CPU and an RTX 4070 Ti, with a secondary laptop for testing. I use my PC not only for gaming but also for web browsing, multitasking, and office work, and I rely on various USB, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi devices. I'm looking for a Linux distribution that will allow me to continue gaming, optimizing my hardware, and managing daily tasks seamlessly. Any recommendations?

Honestly, if you're looking for customization and control, Gentoo might be the way to go. It can be complex but lets you really tweak everything to your liking.

That's a bit over the top, don't you think? Gentoo's a huge commitment.

If you're really into gaming, I'd recommend CachyOS! It's designed specifically for gaming with good optimizations and pretty user-friendly. It's based on Arch, like Manjaro, so it has a cool blend of ease and control. Pair it with KDE Plasma for a smooth experience!

I've seen good things about CachyOS too! But I'm curious, are you experiencing any issues with NVIDIA on Bazzite?

Yeah, I've heard some mixed reports about that, which is why I'm leaning towards CachyOS right now.

Given your needs, switching to Linux might not be the best move. There are certain features you might struggle with, especially gaming and specific hardware tweaks. But if you really wanna try, there are tools to help.

What specific tasks should I be concerned about losing if I switch?

Like driver support for your NVIDIA card—it can be hit or miss, and some setup can be annoying.

You should definitely check out Nobara and Bazzite. They're both gaining traction for gamers, especially with the new drivers and Steam support. Just make sure to keep an eye on compatibility with your NVIDIA GPUs since that can be tricky sometimes. Both options should serve you well!

I looked into those! Are they regularly updated and secure? I’d hate to mess around with something that’s out of date.

That's a good point. I'd like to know if they have easy graphical interfaces or if I need to use the terminal a lot.
