Which Linux Distro is Best for Gaming on My Setup?

I'm trying to pick the right Linux distribution for gaming, but I'm running into conflicting info. I usually use Windows at home and macOS at work, leaning towards macOS. However, I game a lot, mostly indie games with few multiplayer titles. My setup includes a Ryzen 5600 processor and a Geforce 3060 TI, and I also have a Proxmox server. I'm looking for a distribution that is optimized for gaming, preferably one with a gaming mode, but I also want it to be flexible. I've recently switched to using Aerospace on my Mac, and I'm keen to replicate that at home. My main display is an LG C2 with a long fiber HDMI cable, supporting 4K at 120hz HDR. I've heard mixed reports about the compatibility of this setup with Linux. So, which distro should I go for - Bazzite, Cachy, or something else entirely?

For gaming, you can't go wrong with mainstream options. Steam statistics show that about half of Linux gamers use Debian-based distros like Debian, Linux Mint, and Ubuntu. Arch and Fedora are also popular. If you want gaming optimizations, Bazzite is great since it's basically SteamOS. Just a heads-up, setting up Nvidia drivers on Mint can be tricky! Ubuntu and Mint are solid beginner-friendly choices, but Fedora and plain Debian are good too, especially if you enable Proton for Steam games.

Install Fedora and just go with that! It's a fantastic option for gaming and general use. Don't let anyone sway you toward any other distro than Fedora, OpenSUSE, or Ubuntu!

You might want to try Mint or classic Debian with XFCE; they're both good options for gaming and generally easy to use.

If you're looking for a gaming mode specifically, Bazzite is the way to go. Otherwise, any of the major distros should work fine, though some may perform better based on your hardware. I recommend starting with a user-friendly option like Kubuntu. As for your LG C2 monitor, there are some mixed signals about it working with Linux, but since you have an Nvidia GPU, you should be fine. Just be aware that you might experience a performance hit in some DX12 games due to driver bugs.
