I'm completely new to Linux and planning to install it on an external hard drive to use as a secondary operating system. Can anyone suggest a good beginner-friendly distribution? Also, how do I safely change my laptop's boot order to run it from the external drive? Just to note, my laptop's performance isn't great.

If you're new to Linux, you might want to try out Mint or Ubuntu. Just a heads-up: running any operating system from an external drive can be a bit slow, so don't expect the best performance right away. As for changing the boot order, you'll need to enter your BIOS or UEFI settings—usually by pressing a key like F11, F12, Esc, or Del when your laptop starts up. Check your manufacturer’s website for specifics.

I definitely agree with Mint as a starter! Once you get the hang of it, Ubuntu is also a solid choice!
