I'm currently building my PC with a Ryzen 5 5600 and 32GB of DDR4 RAM. I just sold my old RTX 3060 Ti and my outdated 500W PSU. I'm considering getting either an RX 6800, RX 6700 XT, or RTX 3080 as my next GPU, but I'm unsure about the power supply. Do you think a quality 650W PSU would suffice, or should I go for a 750W to avoid issues down the line? I want to future-proof my setup a bit for any upcoming GPU upgrades without constant PSU changes.

I'd definitely recommend going with the 750W. The price difference isn't huge, and you'll have peace of mind knowing it's adequate for future upgrades. Plus, having a little extra headroom never hurts! Here's a good PSU rating list to help you decide: [link].
If you go for the 3080 or 6800 XT, I'd say 750W is the bare minimum. However, if you want to be extra cautious, consider 850W, especially if you plan to really push your system.
I didn’t mention the 6800 XT, just the regular 6800. Honestly, with my Ryzen 5600, I doubt I'd hit 750W at peak. I think a solid 750W will do just fine.
I have a similar setup with a 5700X3D and a 6800 powered by a 550W PSU. I think 750W is a safe bet considering the negligible price difference. Better safe than sorry!
Haha, I had a 7-year-old 500W PSU working with my old 3060 Ti, but I wanted something more reliable. Upgrading to a good one lets me buy any used GPU without worries.
Think about it this way: you just upgraded your GPU and sold your old PSU because it wasn't cutting it. Do you really want to keep swapping PSUs every time you make a GPU change? I personally stick with a PSU for about a decade and usually upgrade my GPU every four years. A 750W or even an 850W would be a smart choice to last you longer.
If you’re eyeing the RX 6800, consider if it's worth getting the XT version, price-wise. But honestly, for your 1080p gaming, the standard RX 6800 is powerful enough. If you do plan to upgrade to 1440p in the future, just keep that in mind, but a 750W should manage well.
I'm currently on 1080p too, so maybe the 6800 is a good fit. Thanks for your insight!
Thanks, I appreciate the link! It's really helpful.
