I'm trying to decide between getting a SATA SSD or a PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD for my B550M motherboard. I'm particularly concerned since my second NVMe slot only supports PCIe 3.0, and I'm not sure if that's worth it compared to a quality SATA option. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

NVMe all the way! There's really no reason to choose SATA anymore, unless it's really all you can afford.
No contest, NVMe is the way to go. The speed difference is significant, and for most tasks, you'd be hard-pressed to find a reason to choose SATA over NVMe.
Definitely get the PCIe 3.0 NVMe. In real-world scenarios, PCIe 4.0 isn't a must unless you're doing super heavy tasks like 4K video editing. Plus, NVMe drives tend to be just as affordable as SATA ones these days.
Just keep in mind that the size of the SSD can affect performance. A bigger SSD can be faster than a smaller one, even if the small one is PCIe 4.0. So consider going for a larger PCIe 3.0 SSD for potentially better speed.
Honestly, go for the PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD. It's way faster, with speeds around 3000MB/s compared to just 500MB/s for SATA. Plus, NVMe drives are pretty cheap these days, so why not take advantage of your motherboard's slot?
Exactly! Fewer cables mean a cleaner setup, too, and I always prefer to keep things NVMe if possible.
