I'm looking to replace my old APC UPS that has the NMC configured with PowerChute, but unfortunately, it hasn't been working with VMware for quite a while now. Given the current situation, I'm trying to avoid buying American brands, so I'm considering sticking with APC (Schneider) instead of Eaton, which seems to be popular around here. If I go with APC, will I need to pay for a subscription for PowerChute? Also, I'm aiming for an 8KW unit here.

I've gotta say, Eaton all the way! If you're looking at larger setups, Vertiv is also pretty good. Just don't settle for a lesser product when there's something better out there.
What does "integration" mean to you? If the UPS can send a shutdown signal to all guest OSs during an outage, do you really mind if VMware itself goes down as well?
For me, it's crucial that it can shut down guest VMs properly. Also, ease of use is really important; I want something that I can just set and forget.
APC's VMware integration is actually pretty solid, but you'll be paying yearly for the privilege of keeping your VMs safe during power issues. Eaton offers free SNMP monitoring, which is genuinely better, but if you decide to go with APC, just be aware that their subscription model is a big part of what they do now.
I'm not locked into anything yet. I want the best option, but if there's a comparable product from a non-American company, I'm definitely interested. We're looking to reduce our reliance on the U.S.

I totally get that, but that's why I'm asking! I’ve seen threads where people praise APC too, but I’d really like to steer clear of American products if I can find something just as competent elsewhere.
