I'm trying to figure out why I'm getting significant FPS drops while screen recording on my PC. I'm capturing gameplay from Oldschool Runescape, which isn't demanding in terms of graphics or gameplay. However, while using OBS to record, the performance tanks, making the game nearly unplayable, almost like I'm watching a PowerPoint presentation. It's puzzling since I've recorded this game many times before with the same setup, and I haven't made any drastic changes to my computer recently. I've attempted clearing out temporary files, disabling unnecessary startup applications, and rebooting my PC, but I still face the same issue. Here are my PC specs: MSI Pro Series Intel B250 motherboard, SanDisk SSD Plus storage, EVGA GTX 1050 Ti graphics card, EVGA 430W power supply, 8GB Ballistix memory, and Intel Core i3-7100 processor.

Are there any background processes running that you could disable? You mentioned that nothing maxes out, but sometimes other applications can still slow things down if they’re using resources. Also, updating your OBS settings or your graphics card drivers might help resolve the issue.
It might be related to your CPU performance. When you're recording, check your Task Manager to see if anything's maxing out. If your CPU usage is high or close to 100%, that could be the problem. Consider lowering the recording resolution or bitrate in OBS to ease the load on your CPU.
