Why am I getting low FPS in games with high-end specs?

I'm having some serious performance issues while gaming. My PC has some pretty solid specs: an ROG STRIX Z390-E GAMING motherboard, an AMD RYZEN 6900 XT GPU, and an INTEL I9 9900K CPU running at 3.6GHz with 8 cores. I also have 32GB of Corsair DDR4 RAM, though I'm not sure of the exact specs. My Cinebench R24 scores are 10,500 for the GPU and 425 for the CPU. For the past 6 months or so, gaming has been less than enjoyable as my frame rates drop significantly, and it's getting worse. I noticed that during these laggy moments, my CPU usage spikes to 100%, even with no other applications running. I've tried to limit background apps and keep my drivers updated, including a recent BIOS update. Can anyone help me figure out if my benchmark scores are low or how I might start diagnosing the issue?

It sounds like you might have a rogue process sucking up your CPU power. When you check Task Manager during those FPS drops, what processes are hogging the resources? It could be malware or some glitchy software. If you suspect anything fishy, running a full system scan might help.

Have you checked for any malware? It wouldn’t hurt to run a virus scan. Sometimes cryptominers can sneak in and drain your resources without you even realizing it.

Given that your CPU hits 100% usage while gaming, I'd recommend a fresh reinstall of Windows. It might seem extreme, but sometimes starting from scratch can fix hidden issues. Just make sure to back up your important files first!
