Why Am I Getting Low FPS on My RX 6800 and Ryzen 5 3600, Even on Max Settings?

I'm having some trouble with my new PC setup, which I bought used. The specs are pretty solid: I have an RX 6800 with 16GB, a Ryzen 5 3600 (which the previous owner overclocked to 4.2 GHz), and 16GB of DDR4 3200 MHz RAM. The issue is that I'm experiencing weird performance. While playing games, my CPU stays cool (only about 40-45°C) and it's hardly ever maxed out at 60%. What's really odd is that when I play Apex Legends, I get about 120 FPS whether I set the graphics to low or max settings—there's no difference! The previous owner assured me everything was fine and that they had a normal FPS, so I'm considering resetting the BIOS to factory settings. Any advice on what's going on?

It sounds like your Ryzen 5 3600 might not be able to keep up with the RX 6800 in some games, especially if they're CPU-intensive. I had a similar setup, and I noticed weak performance playing Apex with lower setting resulting in about 140 FPS max. Even without heavy CPU usage, the CPU may be a bottleneck here. Don't stress too much about that; every system has its limits. Sometimes, it could be better to upgrade your resolution instead, like going to 1440p, rather than just trying to match everything CPU-wise.

Yeah, the bottleneck thing can be tricky, but I definitely think aiming for higher resolution could be a better way to utilize your GPU more effectively. Many games can handle that shift beautifully!
