Why am I getting the same FPS with my RTX 5080 as I did with my 3060?

I'm currently building a new PC and have most of the parts, except for the motherboard (I'm using a 5080 with a 9800X3D). For now, I swapped my 3060 out for the 5080 on my current setup (3060 with a 12600K and DDR4 RAM). I loaded up a game, and to my surprise, I'm getting nearly the same frames as before but with improved input latency. Everything is set the same way—settings and resolution. Can anyone shed some light on why this is happening?

You might be hitting a CPU bottleneck, especially if you expected a dramatic increase from the 3060 to the 5080. It’s tricky since sometimes the gains aren’t as high as we hope!

I thought I'd see a decent boost switching from a 3060 to a 5080, so this is kind of surprising.

Are you using Vsync or do you have any FPS cap enabled? That could definitely hold back your FPS.

It could also depend on the game you're playing. Is it single-core or heavily reliant on just one core? This can greatly affect performance as well.

Are you running at 1080p with the Nvidia Reflex feature on? That can help with input lag.

Yeah, it’s on boost with all low settings, except for view distance and textures which are on high.

Have you reinstalled your drivers and done a clean install? That can sometimes resolve performance issues like this.

Here's a quick test: Try lowering your graphics settings or resolution and see if that improves your FPS. If it does, you might be dealing with a CPU bottleneck. If not, it could be a GPU bottleneck.

I'm on 1080p with all settings low.

What’s your FPS like? Is it a consistent 60 or fluctuating?

I’m getting around 100-110 FPS, generally.

You mentioned your RAM is 3200 MHz DDR4. That shouldn't be a bottleneck, but just a heads up that slower RAM can affect performance. Have you checked that?
