I've got three laptops at home that we all use for work and school, but it seems like they're all experiencing keyboard issues one after another. Specifically, I'm noticing that entire sections or vertical rows of keys are stopping to work. We've tried resetting the laptops to see if it was a software issue, but that didn't help either. Once they break, we end up taking them to a repair shop for new keyboards. I'm wondering if it's because we all type too hard, but I never thought I pressed the keys that hard! We've also never spilled anything on them. Maybe it's because of the conditions in our home? We usually have the AC on, but when it's off, it can get pretty warm. We carry them around regularly too. My mechanical keyboards haven't had any issues, so I'm starting to think this is a membrane keyboard problem. Here are the models: Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 14" (2019), Dell Latitude E7470 14" (2016), and Huwaei Matebook D15 15" (2021). Can anyone shed some light on why this is happening?

Maybe it's haunted! Just kidding, but sometimes weird stuff happens. Seriously though, consider your typing habits and if you're pressing harder than you realize. It could be a combination of typing style and environmental factors too.
It could be related to the humidity in your area. When you take laptops from a cold AC room to a warmer environment, condensation might form on the inside of the keyboard, leading to issues. If the humidity is high where you live, it could be contributing to the keyboard failures. Maybe try to keep them in a more stable environment when moving them around.
I think that might be the case for us too! We do live in a warmer climate and it gets humid when we turn off the AC. Gonna keep an eye on that.
Do you clean your keyboards regularly? Some cleaning products can harm membrane keyboards. Just a thought!
Nope, we don’t really use anything that could damage them. I’ll have to double-check what we're using though.
Haha, maybe we have some angry ghosts in our laptops! But I’ll take a look at how hard we’re typing as well.
