Why Are My Games Crashing After Upgrading to a New Monitor?

Hey everyone! I recently upgraded from a cheap 24" 1080p 60hz monitor to a larger 34" ultrawide 3440x1440 180hz monitor, and now I'm facing some major issues. My RTX 4070 was keeping things cool and smooth before, but since the switch, many of my games are crashing soon after starting—like within 1-15 minutes. Specifically, GTA 5 worked fine initially but now crashes after only 5 minutes, Dead Island 2 has a cap at 60fps to avoid crashing, and Cyberpunk keeps freezing and crashing altogether. The weird part is my GPU temps are normal, usage is around 70-80%, and I have more than enough RAM and VRAM available. I've tried a bunch of fixes like DDU, adjusting sync settings, and testing different drivers, but nothing seems to work. I can play games like Civ 6 without issues, so I'm just really stumped. Any suggestions?

Have you checked if your Windows is up to date? I noticed some of my games started crashing after my Windows updates failed—could be related!

You might be onto something there! I think the crashing issues started after some recent updates. One was stuck at 0%, but I got it to go through after a restart. I’m going to troubleshoot that and see if it helps!

First, try turning off XMP in your BIOS. Sometimes, the memory settings can cause instability when you switch monitors. It could also be contributing to the flickering issue you mentioned.

I actually tried that, but it made the flickering worse and caused Cyberpunk to freeze before crashing again. I ended up re-enabling XMP to get back to normal, but the crashes still persist.
