Why Are My Games Lagging After Upgrading My CPU?

I recently upgraded my CPU from an Intel i5 12400F to an i5 14600K, but I had to switch back because my motherboard didn't support it properly. Now I'm back to the i5 12400F, but I'm experiencing significant lag in games. Even though I reformatted my computer and it's no longer overheating, I'm getting wildly fluctuating frame rates—sometimes I can run a match at 160 FPS, and other times it drops down to 30 FPS. I'm starting to think it's a hardware issue, but I'm not sure. Can anyone offer some advice?

You might want to take a look at your RAM usage and graphics settings in the games. If your memory is maxed out or if you're running high settings, it can cause lag. Also, try updating your graphics drivers. It could be something simple like that causing the frame drops.

Make sure everything is installed properly, including the CPU and its cooler. If something isn't seated correctly, it can cause performance issues. Have you double-checked that? It might also be worth looking into your BIOS settings. Sometimes, tweaking certain options there can help with performance fluctuations. Just a thought!
